Having studied at St. Gregory and Mount St. Mary of the West Seminaries, and earning a graduate degree from the Athenaeum of Ohio, Father Buschmiller was ordained to the priesthood on May 20, 1944 by then Archbishop John T. McNicholas.

In the late 1940s, Father Buschmiller began doctoral studies in Fribourg, Switzerland, and later continued studies in philosophy at the Angelicum in Rome.

He had a long, distinguished career in local higher education.

He was first appointed Judge of Tribunal in 1954, and reappointed in 1967 and 1971.

He served as dean of the College of Liberal Arts of the Athenaeum of Ohio, starting in 1967. He had been at the former St. Mary Seminary in Norwood for 18 years, first as an instructor and later as director of Graduate Program and Summer School Studies and coordinator of studies.

He served as associate pastor at St. James of the Valley in Wyoming; at St. Louis and St. Mary parishes in Cincinnati; at St. Mary parish in Dayton and at St. Ann parish in Hamilton. Most recently, Father Buschmiller served as associate pastor at St. Cecilia parish in Oakley, moving there in 1984 after 13 years as pastor of St. Andrew parish in Milford.

The Rev. Robert J. Buschmiller, who had served as a Roman Catholic priest in the Cincinnati and Dayton areas more than 56 years, died Saturday, May 27, 2000. He was 79. Reception of the body and the funeral Mass were held at St. Cecilia Church, Oakley.
