Father Pat Crone was born in Hamilton, Ohio on April 7, 1942
. He had one sister, four years older. Their father died when
he was four, and he moved to Owensville with his mother and
sister to live with his grandparents until his mother had saved
enough money to purchase a home one mile south of Owensville,
where she still lives.
He attended Owensville Grade School and Clermont Northeastern
High School where he played every sport, but especially liked
basketball. His mother was the primary religious educator of
his life, supported by twelve years of CCD at St Louis and
the teachers who shared their faith with him.
He had a paper route, worked on farms, at a building supply
and a trucking company during school and college. After high
school he joined the Air Force and served his active duty followed
by time in the reserves. He was activated for the Cuban crisis.
He studied accounting at the University of Cincinnati and
the University of Dayton before entering the seminary. Ordained
a Deacon in 1970, he did his intern year at St. Michael in
Sharonville.
Ordained a Priest for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati on May
29, 1971, he was then assigned as a full-time associate to
Troy, Ohio. In October he was assigned to teach Religion at
Carroll High School in Dayton. He was appointed Associate Youth
Director for the Archdiocese (office in Dayton), and Chaplain
to Juvenile Detention in Dayton.
In 1974 he was appointed Vocation Director for the Archdiocese.
In 1978, he became co-pastor at Nativity, Pleasant Ridge; Pastor
of St. Columbkille, Wilmington in 1979; St Andrew, Milford
1984; St Mary, Bethel and Our Mother of Good Counsel, Felicity,
1989; and St Saviour, Rossmoyne, 2000.
